I guess it is a good thing I was forced to leave early because of my knee - had I stayed, in the pain I was in (which for me translates into a short temper) I would have gotten arrested for attacking Fisher.

NOW, the question is what to do next - because the battle is not over until the building is demolished.

We just
passed the 200-signature milestone with a great diversity of comments,
many about the village heritage. Just shows there is a huge story
waiting to be told ...and what a great building to hold the historical
museum of the history of Egg Harbor. Rock on friends and neighbors!

Thanks Steve. Protecting Door Counties Heritage Tourism is important to all who live here, and what one town does effects all of us on this small Island peninsula. The Carmody Hotel is a local landmark and it would be a shame to lose yet another, especially when Egg Harbor has so few. I dream of the day my kids bring their kids back to their hometown, Egg Harbor, and can point to these landmarks and share their own stories they have learned. These icons are our history and without them we have no tie to our community or desire to return. Please consider what a Nature center, Historical center and COMMUNITY CENTER really stands for and I know you will do the right thing by incorporating this sound historic structure into your plans instead of simply making it more landfill. The Carmody family deserve's to be honored in Egg Harbor history and who better to do this than the Village and Town board.

I was very pleased that the Village decided to buy the building. I didn't learn until later the plans to demolish the building. It's a beautiful old building much like old Town Halls, Museums, Libraries in small communities everywhere. It would be worthwhile to have preservationists take a look before it comes down.

I am glad the village bought the property; I too encourage them to further investigate the possibilities mentioned in this article before the building is torn down. I totally agree with Steve Sohns' comments. The village of Egg Harbor has many parcels very close to Hwy 42; taking prime commercial real estate for municipal use does not seem to be in the best interest of the village or business community. Once it is gone, it is gone.

It seems like government should at least weigh the public sentiment and then consult with a few experts before making snap decisions. I hope this one backfires on them! It is extremely sad and disappointing to think they never even went inside the building before making their decision.

Great link Steve! What a shame for Door County if they do this. They could easily adapt this building into a new structure and addition and it could be very handsome with a little imagination and the right GREEN designers. I think a few outdated architects and builders were at the table . . . so far.
I hope the building will be LEAD certified when they are done which is a way to create NEW history while preserving the past and our natural resources. That way they can walk the talk preservation of our resources they claim to love.

I love this deli! They sell Power Bars, that are so amazing! If you go to Egg Harbor you have to stay healthy and eat healthy...this is the one stop shop for all your needs!

Wind developer forsakes Wisconsin for greener pastures to states that are climate friendlier to wind energy. The industry's exodus will cause manufacturing and construction jobs to migrate outside of Wisconsin. It's amazing how Wisconsin Construction Jobs are getting into renewable clean energy. Wind farm projects are rapidly becoming more popular.This is the type of exciting news I like because it means new construction project in Wisconsin. With how harsh the current economy is, work can be hard to find. I recently stumbled across Dodge Projects on another blog site and for whatever reason decided to try them.. It led to some great jobs. They actually have their job listings sorted by state, project and type, so I can quickly find which leads are right for me, and have proven to be both valuable and profitable. I would definitely recommend checking them out.
